Aurora commits $1M to autonomous trucking workforce initiative amid shift to driverless operations
Aurora Innovation, Inc. today highlighted findings from a new report revealing that autonomous freight is already a multi-billion dollar bolster for the $1 trillion dollar U.S. trucking industry, with even more economic opportunity over the next ten years.
The analysis, commissioned by Aurora and conducted by the Steer Group, highlights that autonomous trucking, despite being in early stages of deployment, currently supports 17,000 jobs and $3.3 billion in total economic output.
The report projects that by 2035, the autonomous trucking sector alone is projected to account for $70 billion of U.S. GDP, representing a highly efficient growth engine for the long-haul highway segment.

Torc backs Virginia workforce training effort for autonomous vehicles
Autonomous trucking developer Torc is supporting a new workforce training initiative in Virginia aimed at preparing workers for jobs in the emerging autonomous vehicle sector.
The program is funded through the state’s GO Virginia economic development initiative and is designed to align workforce training across the Commonwealth to support the growth of automated vehicle technologies. The effort will bring together industry partners, educational institutions and workforce organizations to develop training programs and credentials related to autonomous vehicle systems and advanced transportation technologies.

Partnering with TechForce to support the workforce behind fully autonomous ride-hailing
Autonomous vehicles are a growing, strategically important technology for the U.S., and new approaches are needed to help Americans of all backgrounds find opportunities as it expands. Today, we’re delighted to announce a new partnership with the TechForce Foundation, the only national nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of professional technicians across U.S. transportation sectors, to do just that.
Through this partnership, Waymo will fund 28 TechForce tuition scholarships for students and working technicians enrolled in technical and community college programs, as well as create resources for tens of thousands of people across the U.S.
